ADMISSIONS: FAQs Frequently Asked Questions

(Questions regarding the different subjects can be asked of the teachers in the classrooms)

Is FPD accredited?

Yes, we are accredited by SACS – Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

Are your teachers certified?

Yes, all of our teachers are fully certified and regularly participate in professional growth activities.

What is the tuition?

For the 2006-2007 school year:

  • $5140 for PK & K
  • $8730 for 1-5
  • $8870 for 6-8
  • $9220 for 9-12

What other fees are there?

There is a $60 testing and application fee.  Books, PE uniforms, activity fee, registration, class shirts for PK – 5 are all covered with the tuition.  (Please note that the $400 registration fee is part of the total tuition – it is not an extra fee.)  The only other fees would be for field trips, personal items for sports, some class activities, etc.

Is there tuition assistance?

Yes, TAP.  Students in grades 1-12 are eligible.  Contact the business office for more information.  This is not scholarship money but need-based assistance.

How may students attend FPD?

We presently have 994 students.

Is there an Admissions Test?

Yes.

  • PK, K and 1st grade students are evaluated through the Gesell Development Screening Assessment – a readiness test for school.
  • 2nd –12th graders are given 3 parts of the Stanford Ninth Edition Achievement Test – Reading Comprehension, Math Procedure and Language Expression.
  • Students entering 8th and above are also given a writing assessment.
  • Students entering 7th and 8th grade are given a math placement exam

How many classes do we have?

There are 3 classes of PK (pre-kindergarten)-5th grade (20 per class); and 4 classes of 6-12 (20 per class).

What percent of your students go on to college?

100%

What curriculum do you use?

We do not use a set curriculum (i.e. Bob Jones).  Instead our curriculum director along with the department heads evaluate different texts to select the program that they feel is most appropriate for a college bound student.  In the elementary grades we use a balanced literacy curriculum - Open Court for reading (which is a strong phonics based curriculum for the early grades) and Everyday Math.

What is offered in the Fine Arts?

We offer band, chorus, dance team and drama classes.  Students compete on Literary teams in the GISA (Georgia Independent School Association)in these areas.  Typically the drama department produces four plays a year – some with an elementary cast, a upper school cast or a mixed school production.

Sports?

We compete in the GISA.

Boys:  Cross-Country, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Wrestling, Tennis, Golf, Swimming, Track and Field, Baseball

Girls:  Cross-Country, Softball, Basketball, Tennis, Swimming, Track & Field, Golf, Soccer, Cheerleading

Typically the teams are composed of students in the 6th  -12th grades
