The Elementary Art Program at FPD is designed to teach many things. First it teaches the basic elements of art and how to use them to create artwork. These basic elements are line, shape form, space, value, color, and texture. Using these basic elements, it then moves to the use of different materials and mediums to create artwork, such as paper, textiles, clay, paint, crayons, markers, oil pastels, watercolors, tissue paper, glue, etc. They learn how to manipulate these materials to get the effects that they want.
Also, the program concentrates on art history and the masters all the way through to modern times. Finally, the Elementary Art program is used along side the classroom teachers to integrate the children's studies in their regular class with that of art class to encompass all subjects together to better emphasize the particular subject being studied.
Art Instructor K - 5th Grade
Judith Johnson Lamb
jlamb@fpdmacon.org
A life-long native of Macon, Georgia, Judith’s early interest in both art and teaching led her to earn a AB degree from Mercer University with a major in art. Afterwards and for twenty-three meaningful and productive years, she taught art to senior high students in public and private schools in both Macon and Atlanta. She was chairperson for the art department at Southwest and Stratford Academy. While at Southwest she earned a Master’s of Education.
Because Judith found teaching art to be stimulating, edifying, and inspirational, after retiring from her art education career, she continued to attend workshops, many conducted by well-known artists. Ever the educator, she returned to teaching at FPD this fall. She is teaching art to the third, fourth, and fifth grades. She and Jaime Simmons co teach the sixth grade. She feels that the opportunity to teach part time is a blessing. She and Mrs. Simmons are striving to create an art program for students in a happy, structured atmosphere.
Judith and her husband, Bobby, have six children and twelve grandchildren. They are active members of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church where Judith serves as a Stephen Minister. She enjoys being a grandmother, painting, and reading.

Jaime Bisonette Simmons is our new Elementary Art teacher this year. Mrs. Simmons teaches part time, and she teaches K5, 1 st, 2 nd, and 6 th grade art. Originally from Macon, Mrs. Simmons attended FPD in elementary school. She graduated from Mercer University in 1998 with a BA in Art. While attending Mercer, she was a member of the Chi-Omega sorority and was awarded an art scholarship award both her Junior and Senior year. Under the direction of Sam Hutto, Mrs. Simmons excelled in the art program and graduated with honors.
After graduation, Mrs. Simmons accepted the elementary art position at Tattnall where she taught for six years and was also the director of Fine Arts for three years. While teaching she also taught private art lessons for six years and has also painted for commission for many clients. Mrs. Simmons, a member of the Junior League of Macon, has done artwork for their annual kitchen tour and Marketplace. She also painted a floor to ceiling mural in her baby daughter’s room, which was featured in Macon Magazine in 2004.
Jaime married Mark Simmons of Macon, former student of FPD, in June of 2002. In August of 2004 they welcome the birth of their daughter Lilla Adair Simmons. Mrs. Simmons and her husband are members of Vineville United Methodist Church. They have two American bulldogs named “Tuga” and “Bella Blue.” Jaime and Mark enjoy renovating their house and taking on projects in their spare time. Mrs. Simmons feels very blessed to have the opportunity to work with children and be a stay at home mom to her daughter. The two and a half days are a perfect balance for her and her family. This job has been an answer to prayer, and Mrs. Simmons is looking forward to making the elementary art program a structured, positive, and creative environment for the children of FPD!
