The Choirs of First Presbyterian Day School
The FPD Choral Department is one of several performing arts departments at FPD. It is a ministry of and to the school, staff and community of Macon. The department is in its third year of development and continues to grow each year. It began in 2003 with 24 students and has grown to 70 students this year! They sing at many public venues in Macon as well as on their annual spring trip. Christmas is an exciting time because of the opportunities that are available for them to sing. The spring stays busy as we prepare to perform for judges at GMEA festival, give a spring concert and perform a choreographed number for our spring trip.
The Chorus department sponsors the annual FPD Talent Show, Parent’sNight Out, Dinner and A Show, a dinner served before the Theater Production in the spring; and Spring Trip as well as their concerts given throughout the year!
Currently the Choral Department has 4 choirs:
FPD Viking Chorus
Open to all middle school students enrolled at FPDS. They are trained to sight read, sing for judges and perform music from all genres.
Reflection
New this year Reflection is our high school ensemble, which sings contemporary music and has sung The National Anthem at several Football Games.
FPD Viking Singers
New in January of 2006! Students are selected from among the Viking Chorus. The students are seventh and eighth graders and must have been in Chorus for one year.
Cantabile
A small girl’s ensemble selected by the director to represent FPD at Literary. Students will perform various music written for women’s voices.
