ATHLETICS: CROSS COUNTRY

Cross Country Home

The First Presbyterian Day School Cross-Country program is beginning its seventh year of existence, and is the the premier program in Middle Georgia. The runners at FPD have achieved a level of success over the past five seasons that is absolutely impressive. In our inaugural season (1999) we had a total of 25 varsity boys and girls and currently boast over 80 runners in grades 3-12.

Those numbers have led to a great deal of success, as the varsity boys are three-time (2002, 2003 & 2004) defending GISA AAA State Champions, following their State Runner-Up finish in 2000 and have won five consecutive Region 2-AAA Champions.  The varsity girls won Region 2-AAA Championships in 2001, 2003 & 2004 and were State Runner-Up in 2003.

The 2005 teams look to build on the success of the recent past, as the varsity boys return 4 of their "Top 7" and the varsity girls return 7 of their "Top 7" from 2004.

The 2004 boys are led by junior captains Scott Cope (16:39), Joby Peake (16:50) and Brandon Suttle (18:30), sophomores Rawson Ridley (18:35), Drew Wood (20:10) and juniors Daniel Slocumb (19:19) and Josh Smith (19:36).

The 2005 girls are led by juniors Erin Colunga (19:52) and Jean Hawkins (21:35), senior Holly Long (23:37), sophomore Aubrey Place (23:03) and 8th graders Ashley Cope, Emily Morgan, Kendall Goodman and Catherine Harris.

We continue to be amazed at the success that has been attained in our sixth year as a program, and hope to build on this strong foundation. This year’s teams have the potential to continue to establish new traditions and take FPD Cross-Country to new heights.
