| Taylor Floyd of Macon entered the final round Sunday one shot back of Glennville’s Evan Fountain after an even-par 72 during round one. After the front nine on Sunday, Floyd was three back and then he went on a Phil Mickelson BellSouth Classic like back nine. He birdied four of the final eight holes to overtake Fountain and capture the Overall Boys title of the 3rd Annual Landings Junior Classic. Floyd shot 3-under 33 on the back nine for a second round 2-under 70. He finished the tournament at 2-under 142 for the one shot victory. Fountain played solid golf on the back nine with only one bogey, but was not able to make a three foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to get into a playoff.
The victory was the first for Floyd after several runner-up finishes last year. He has played in over 30 tournaments over the last five years of the Junior Tour.
Age division champions: Boys 16-18 Taylor Floyd of Macon at 142; Boys 14-15 Dustin Allen of Savannah at 147; Boys 12-13 Brice Eaton of Jasper and John Wilson Gordon of Rochelle at 151; Girls 12-14 Yugene Lee of Athens at 171; Girls 15-18 Katie Burnett of Brunswick at 153. The Landings Junior Classic is the third of 15 statewide 36-hole tournaments through October. The top players from three boys divisions and two girls divisions will come together for the Junior Tour Championship in December at Jekyll Island Golf Club.
The Georgia PGA Junior Tour was developed in 2002 to teach the values of sportsmanship, honesty, self-discipline, integrity and competitive spirit through the game of golf. This will be accomplished by conducting a series of 36-hole competitions on some of the state’s finest courses and with the highest level of professionalism. |
